Offered by JockJen Antiques. Antique Porcelain Teaset Furrowed London Shape Teapot and Set By Gerrard Cope & Co 30 pieces circa 1830. Here we have an antique, collectable and interesting early 19th Century thirty piece bone china tea set or tea service dating from circa 1830. This hand painted tea service has a stylised viola pattern (number 45 painted under 2 saucers) painted in a puce or purple, green and yellow enamel in a naive style. The lid as a distinctive faceted stepped finial with painted green dots. There is an angular shaped handle to the teapot. The bone china body has no makers mark, but the shape is recorded as being produced around 1830, possibly by Gerrard Cope and Co of High street, Longton, Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire potteries in England. It has a fifteen hole triangular strainer. There is a teapot and lid, twelve London or Grecian shape cups, 11 saucers, 2 cake plates, milk jug , sugar bowl, slop basin. See Plate 1216 page 203 of a Directory of British Teapots by Michael Berthoud and Richard Maskell. This teapot stands approximately 6 1/2 inches high and is approx 5 inches wide and the teapot is 10 inches from spout to handle. The complete service weighs 4.62kg unpacked. Item condition: Good antique condition. Some body discolouration associated with old bone china to the milk jug, 3 cups cracked, 1 saucer missing sugar bowl base cracked, glazed chip to teapot spout, small crack to base of the handle.
